Cursed Media

I work in a news media company. Last week I overheard one of our editors talking about the helicoptor crash that killed 31 Marines. Soldiers. Defenders. Sons. Fathers. Brothers. The editor was trying to confirm the number of Marines that had died. What I heard the editor say made me wince.

"I pray out loud to God that somebody will confirm that it is 31 Marines dead."

I know what she meant. That doesn't change what she said, and what it reveals about the desensitized heart of the media today. There are many things to pray for in this broken world, and I'm not sure this should be one of them. The disconnect between what she had to do to fulfill her job responsibilities and the proximity to tragedy leaves me in despair. As U2's Bono once lamented in reflecting on Psalm 40, "How long, how long must we sing this song?"

What Women Want

After observing my infant daughter over the first 2 months of her life, I can only be left with the conclusion that, since all she really does is eat, sleep, and complain, that she is one high-maintenance female.

And after observing my younger sister-in-law as well, apparently not much changes over the next 18 years either.

Quite astounding

And quite possibly the second greatest invention is the disposable diaper.

When I change my daughter's diaper, I find myself humming to Spinal Tap's seminal song, "Heavy Duty."

Uh, heh heh...duty...

Ingenious

Arguably the greatest invention of the past 500 years: The Baby Pacifier.
